Winter Storm Preparedness

With the Winter Storm season approaching there are some precautions that all of us need to take to have a safe winter season. These include:

  • Have a plan-
    • understand the hazards of wind chill
    • keep your car’s gas tank full
    • winterize your car
    • protect your property
    • know the difference between WATCH and WARNING( A WATCH means that a storm could occur within the next 12 to 36 hours; a WARNING means a storm is occurring or will occur within the next 30 minutes).
  • Build a kit-
    • Have a warm coat, hat, gloves or mittens
    • Extra blankets and extra warm clothing
    • Have a kit for your car that includes water, high energy snacks, canned fruit
  • Get trained-
    • Learn how to deal with frostbite and hypothermia
  • Driving precautions to take-
    • Keep cell phone battery charged
    • Have a windshield scraper and small broom
    • Be aware of freezing rain, sleet, and fog
